Sunbeam Pottery Studio

Diane has worked in clay for 30 years. Some pieces are hand-built and sculpted, but for the most part she has always made the thrown vessel form a priority in her work.
Her glazes are rich and luminous in color and texture. They also owe their origin to history. Through her studies she has been greatly influenced by Greek and Chinese form. Decoration is articulated by freely applied coils, sculpting and incising. This along with the glazing and firing process are all a part of the make cycle spontaneity of her work.
Diane sculpts images in base relief and these are applied as part of the decoration in the leather-hard clay.
Simplicity of form and decoration is her objective. "It's all been done before", Diane says "so it is a matter of taking history and creating my own". Through shape and form seen in ancient ceramics and architecture, and also through God's creation: man, animal, vegetation, rock form etc., she is deeply inspired.

All of Diane's work is fired to high temperature, which is 2300 degrees Fahrenheit, in a gas fired reduction kiln.
